The two Formula One Testing sessions in Barcelona wrapped up March 1st with, once again, the teams running a massive amount of laps in just eight days.
Our analysis shows that the ten teams completed a total of 8,774 laps, the equivalent of almost 133 race distances!
Although Scuderia Ferrari topped the timesheets on four of the eight days, Mercedes-AMG Petronas put in by far the most number of laps. Suspicions of sandbagging also surrounded the German team.
Most of the other teams ran about the same amount, except Racing Point (formerly Force India) who only broke the 100 lap mark on the final two days and ROKiT Williams, who missed the first two days (and most of the third). Williams did, however, recover pretty well and ran solidly (though not quickly) throughout the second session.
So it looks like Mercedes versus Ferrari at the front and a very tight pack behind them, with McLaren, Toro Rosso and Alfa Romeo (formerly Sauber) bunched up with Red Bull, Renault and Haas. Racing Point a bit behind and Williams bringing up the rear again.
