F1 Rule Changes? Add Some Weight

Today’s Bahrain GP was one of the most entertaining races in quite some time, yet we have Bernie Ecclestone still pissing and moaning. His “chosen” teams, Ferrari and Red Bull, want the rules changed – after just three races! – because they aren’t competitive. Ludicrous and the FIA should reject them out of hand.

However, one rules that really DOES need to be changed – and quickly – is the minimum weight limit which clearly penalizes the taller, “larger” drivers. When I say larger, we aren’t talking fat here. Nico Hulkenburg is one of the heaviest at a “whopping” 165lbs yet we have reports of drivers being hospitalized for dehydration during radical dieting (Jean-Eric Vergne), or racing without a drink bottle to save car weight (Adrian Sutil). This is ridiculous and dangerous.

The FIA needs to address this issue immediately. Add just 5kg to the minimum weight of the car and driver and this absurdity can stop. Lap times will still fall as the cars are developed but at least the driver can concentrate on the driving and not dieting.
